BLUE RIDGE PRIDE ANNOUNCES RAINBOWS FOR PRIDE

Asheville, NC –Blue Ridge Pride will hold “Rainbows for Pride” month long fundraiser during July 2010. The fundraiser sells $1 rainbows in community businesses to be displayed throughout the month. Every dollar goes directly back into programming costs for the Blue Ridge Pride festival on October 2nd, 2010 located in downtown Asheville. Participating businesses such as Greenlife Grocery, La Rue’s backdoor, Wildflower Salon, and others will receive one dollar credit towards sponsorship for the Blue Ridge Pride festival for every rainbow sold. Businesses are actively being recruited to participate at this time.

La Rue’s backdoor, 237 Haywood St, will host a kick-off party for Rainbows for Pride on Friday July 2nd. The night will include dancing, Blue Ridge Pride information, a VIP pass raffle for the 10-2-10 event, and lots of excitement and fun. The fundraiser will culminate on Saturday July 31st, 2010 with a free public community picnic at the WNC Nature Center Gazebo. Blue Ridge Pride will present its first annual Community Partnership Award this day, and give thanks to those who graciously donated space, time, and funding to the project. More information can be found at www.blueridgepride.com.

Blue Ridge Pride is an all-volunteer organization with a five-person Board of Directors. It was formed in spring of 2009, and currently has 501-c4 non-profit status. Blue Ridge Pride strives to be inclusive of all LGBTQ populations, families, and friends; and to create an exciting day that will educate, support awareness, and entertain the overall community at large.

The second annual Blue Ridge Pride will be held on October 2nd, 2010 in downtown Asheville. The festival is changing venues to Lexington Ave for the 2010 event. Blue Ridge Pride is currently seeking individuals to assist with leadership and planning portions of the festival and businesses interested in becoming sponsors through financial and in-kind donations.

In effort to support area business, commerce and the environment, Blue Ridge Pride will encourage local restaurants and businesses to be the main source of vending; offering the immediate community and visitors the opportunity to explore the tastes, crafts, and merchandise that Asheville and the surrounding areas have to offer.

The festival still needs volunteers in many areas, ranging from committee chairs to volunteers to work fundraiser events.
