Building Bridges’ Silent Racism Women’s Discussion Group
January – April 2010 Thursday evenings
2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 7-9

Who can attend? All women of all races who have participated in the Building Bridges 9 week program in the past.

When will we meet? Meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from January through April from 7-9 PM. Meeting dates include: January 14h and 28th, February 11th and 25th, March 11th and 25th, April 8th and 22nd. Please do not register if you will not be able to attend almost all of the meetings.

Where will we meet? The first meeting will be held at the Coordinator’s home and at that time group participants will schedule dates to host future meetings in their homes or community space.

What if I can’t host a meeting in my home? Don’t let that stop you! There will be more group members than weeks to meet so not everyone will be a host.

How many women can attend? Space is limited to 12 women who have participated in Building Bridges 9 week session in the past. Participants will be registered on a first come first served basis.

How much does it cost? $30, payable by check or money order to Building Bridges which must be received by December 14th and mailed to Building Bridges C/O Dawn Klug 75 Lees Creek Road Asheville, NC 28806

What is supplied? A copy of the book, Silent Racism How Well Meaning White People Perpetuate the Racial Divide by Barbara Trepagnier, printed weekly discussion questions and an opportunity to meet with a group of women working to overcome racism within ourselves and our community.

What will we do? The group will read and discuss the book Silent Racism by Barbara Trepagnier in order to help participants with the following:
Rethink Racism in terms of a continuum of racist behaviors
Deepen understanding of how well meaning white people contribute to the racial divide with silent racism, passivity and institutional racism
Deepen understanding of the impact of racial awareness on being antiracist.
Deepen understanding of antiracism, what it is, why it matters and how to develop it within ourselves
Develop and continue a support group of antiracist women in our community

How do I sign up? Just fill out the registration sheet on the other side of this flyer and mail it along with a check or money order for $30 made out to Building Bridges to Building Bridges C/O Dawn Klug 75 Lees Creek Road Asheville, NC 28806 by December 14th. Participants will be registered on a first come first served basis.
