with Brad Warner
April 2-5
3 nights
$195 ($97.50 deposit) Dana
Brad Warner is an ordained Zen teacher in the Soto lineage. He has practiced Zen for 25 years, beginning when he was a student at Kent State University. He was ordained by Gudo Nishijima in 1999 and has been teaching Zen ever since. He is the bass player for the hardcore punk rock group Zero Defex and works for the company founded by the man who created Godzilla.
This simple retreat will focus on the Shikantaza style zazen practice described by Master Dogen in his 13th century classic, Shobogenzo: Treasury of the True Dharma Eye. Students will spend most of the retreat sitting in silent zazen practice periods of 30 minutes each, separated by 10-minute rounds of walking meditation. This unadorned, bare-bones style was said by Master Dogen to be the deepest and most profound of all meditation methods. Fear not, though! The stories you have heard about shouting Zen masters hitting students with big sticks are mostly exaggerations. In any case, that is not what we will be doing here. There will not be a lot of ritual or chanting, but there will be group talks, discussions, and ample time for private instruction and questions.

Letting Go, Moving On...Flowing in times of Transition
August 21-23, 2009 $500
A young man, who never wanted anything except to play football in the NFL, is injured in a game during his junior year at a major university, and realizes his career is over...
A successful business woman retires from her position as director of a major corporation, and starts wondering what to do next...
A student finishes college with high expectations that life will be suddenly better. A few months later he realizes that he doesn't know what to do or where to go....
Each of these people faces a major transition in life. Transitions are a normal part of our existence - we all face change, grief, loss, new jobs, new homes... But there are no courses in our schools to tell us how to deal with the emotional turmoil that can happen in times of transition.
Horses have much to teach us about transition. They are not immune to the emotional aspects of it. We have often observed how a major change in a horse's life can be accompanied by physical and behavioral problems. And they can also let go and move on in an amazingly short time.
In this workshop, we will share the lessons of the horses in letting go, moving on, and getting back to Life.

Make that several nations, for among the rare ingredients of her irresistible personality and mesmerizing ability to relate a great story in song, is an all-embracing quality that defies borders, cultures and even languages. Born in County Derry, Ireland, Cara demonstrated her staggeringly beautiful voice early on, winning the All Ireland Traditional Singing Trophy at the age of 14. The angelic quality of her voice draws comparisons to Eva Cassidy and places her firmly amongst the leading young traditional artists emerging into the mainstream. You will be hard pressed to find a more emotive and captivating performer.

Yoga Hiking Expedition
Make The Wilderness Your Ashram...
APRIL 11 - 15
Join our professional yoga and outdoor staff for this 5-day yoga hiking expedition in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains.
De-stress your mind, strengthen and clean your body, and re-connect and lift your spirit on this professionally guided yoga trek in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
An Ashram in ancient India was a hermitage where sages lived in peace and tranquility amidst nature. The Blue Ridge Mountains will be our Ashram, where you will live in community, and be immersed everyday in the practice of yogic mindfulness and low impact hiking and camping.
We will wake before the sun to begin our daily practice of Hatha Yoga and Meditation before eating and breaking camp to hike for the day, often in silence. During lunch and regular rest times we will engage in discussion and study of yoga philosophy, including the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita. After evening camp set-up we will practice Hatha Yoga again, enjoy a yogic dinner, and evening yoga activities.
For 14 years of my "previous" life I created, directed, and led wilderness expeditions with Outward Bound, school groups, and private companies. My life has since changed just a little, and yoga has taken over as my profession and lifestyle. So, the obvious trail to forge is combining these lives into a YOGA HIKING EXPEDITION.
On that trail, just for five days you can leave behind your daily stresses to be immersed in your own practice, to learn anew, to recharge your life's energy, and enjoy the simplicity of NATURE'S ASHRAM.
The cost is $595, though you can pre-register by March 15 and pay $495. Call to sign-up!
20 hours of the yoga training will be applicable to Continuing Education Units recognized by the Yoga Alliance.
