BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

AVATAR MEHER BABA (1894-1969) one of India’s most revered spiritual masters, observed silence for 44 years. Of this silence Baba said, “I have come not to teach but to awaken” people’s hearts to the God within. He stated, “You have been given enough words” and that now is the time to put spiritual truths into action in everyday life. Fluent in 7 languages, his messages were eloquently communicated through the use of an English alphabet board, and later through a unique system of hand gestures. About his mission Meher Baba said, “I have come to sow the seed of love in your hearts so that, in spite of the superficial diversity which your life in illusion must experience and endure, the feeling of Oneness, through love, is brought about amongst all nations, creeds, sects and castes of the world.” Regarding spiritual life, Meher Baba commented,“God, who is in everything and everyone, is deaf to formal rituals, ceremonies, and prayers in mosques, churches and temples, but he hears the voice of the heart. When you help others, God knows instantly and is pleased. No amount of prayer or meditation can do what helping others can do.”

PETER NORDEEN (writer/producer) is an Asheville builder by vocation – but by avocation, is a Meher Baba historian, having studied Meher Baba’s life and teachings for over 30 years. A part-time resident of Meherabad, India, Peter is fortunate to have lived and worked side by side with Meher Baba’s closest disciples gleaning from them many stories of life with the Master.
