DESCRIPTION:Click here for our Calendar Events Click here for WNC Alliance Events Asheville Green Drinks is a networking party and part of the self-organi zing global grassroots movement that connects local communities with envi ronmental ideas, media and action. All over the world people who are inte rested in environmental issues and topics meet up for a drink and occasio nally listen to an expert in environment, ecology, and/or social justice. The Green Drinks phenomena features 738 different international cities h osting events featuring conversation, networking and education. Originall y created in London, England the Green Drinks movement was launched in As heville in 2006 by Joseph Malki from Seven-Star, Ty Hallock from Top Floo r Studio and Brad & Elizabeth Reichart from Bobo Gallery. Asheville Green Drink’s hallmark has been that instead of hosting an event once a month like most cities, it hosts an event every week, typically with a sp eaker (excepting holidays and snow weather). Asheville Green Drinks forma tion was largely inspired by the work of Ulla Reeves and her management o f EnviroBeer Night which was really just for enviro-activists around town to connect, socialize, and relax. Asheville Green Drinks is lucky to be supported by a wide variety of community members with a range of ideologi cal backgrounds who share a common commitment to ecological stewardship a nd humanist interests.

SUMMARY:CENTER for DIVERSITY EDUCATION Ongoing Events
DESCRIPTION:CENTER for DIVERSITY EDUCATION - Asheville Check out our event calendar and more events Vision The Center helps build relationships across diffe rences to create a more inclusive and equitable community. Mission The C enter celebrates and teaches diversity in order to foster conversation and respect among cultures. Guiding Principles The human condition is enr iched and strengthened by interaction with people from varying experiences . When diverse aspects of the human condition are intentionally included in the classroom, campus, workplace and community, individuals expand thei r knowledge, affirm individual and group identity, and deepen their commun al life experience. School-based programs should be correlated with the N orth Carolina Standard Course of Study and the Future Ready core curriculu m for grades K-12. Using a laboratory approach in our work with UNC Ashev ille students will expand the footprint of both the Center and the Univers ity. Non-UNC Asheville programming should directly benefit the intended o rganizations and the community at-large. Alignment between like-minded or ganizations reduces a duplication of effort, magnifies outcomes, and makes efficient use of limited resources.?CDE fund-raising should be mission-dr iven.

SUMMARY:North Florida Women's Chorale Celebrates its 20th Season!
DESCRIPTION:North Florida Women's Chorale Celebrates its 20th Season! On April 28, to a full house at Community Presbyterian Church in Atlantic Beach, FL and again on May 18 at Memorial Presbyterian Church in St Augustine (a s part of its Romanza Festivale) the North Florida Women's Chorale (NFWC) marked its 20th season of promoting music written for women's choral voi ces with the concert "CELEBRATE!". The Chorale has been part of the Jacks onville and St Augustine, FL communities since 1992, performs at local ve nues each December and Spring, and occasionally tours. To culminate t his milestone season, NFWC will also sing the "Celebrate!" concert on May 24 at the Biltmore Estate and on May 26 at St. Mathias Episcopal Church in Asheville, NC. The concert includes favorite selections from the p ast 20 years, including the timeless Quaker tune, "How Can I Keep From Si nging?" and Moses Hogan’s "I Am His Child". Other notable works in the program are Srul Irving Glick’s settings of Psalm 23 and Psalm 47 from his Psalm Trilogy, and the well-loved "Lift Thine Eyes" Women's Trio fro m Mendelssohn's "Elijah". To further honor the occasion NFWC, under the direction of Kerry Fradley with Maureen Rhodes accompanying, sing a comm issioned work written especially for them by musician/composer, Dawn Leno re Sonntag. Based on Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Amy Lowell’s "Listenin g", which begins, 'Tis you that are the music, not your song,'. The comp oser notes that the phrase, ". . . single notes amid a glorious throng" a lso describes the essence of choral singing. Sonntag adds "…the [choru s] members are the vital force that create the music", a fitting tribute to the Chorale in marking this anniversary and honoring its history.
