Asheville-based Artist Carrie Cox Displays A Quiet Strength In New Exhibition

Opening Reception Oct. 19 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Wedge Studios Spotlight Gallery

ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA (October 11, 2019) – Like many, Asheville-based artist Carrie Cox deals with life’s trials and tribulations. Her response has been to find order in the chaos. Inspired by a quiet strength she has recently embraced, her latest work exhibits light, order, and the beauty that exists in the little things.

Her work is intricately detailed, but with a sense of order and calm. The titles of her work are an intimate part of the art and highlight the introspection that goes into each piece. You can see the work inspired by her experiences at the opening reception for A Quiet Strength which takes place on Oct. 19 from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Wedge Studios Spotlight Gallery on the 2nd floor (129 Roberts St. 3A, Asheville, NC 28801). Cox’s exhibition will be on display through Oct. 31.

“I have always been drawn to the abstract and the study of line, shape and color. My work is the visual expression of thoughts and feelings that often cannot be put into words,” says Cox of her work. “In this exhibition, I am presenting a continuing narrative from one piece to the next. I invite you to look at each piece and explore the movement, suggestion of the shape, and to interject their own feeling and interpretation.”

She stood and waited
tick tock tick tock

Thoughts colliding
like clouds in the sky

Into boxes they went
putting order to chaos

Inhale (Patience)

Exhale (Resilience)

She reached a point of understanding

A quiet strength guiding her through

We are a one-of-a-kind magazine that provides local, regional, national and international information about women’s lives and education, performing and visual arts and writing, the environment, green living and sustainability and regional Western North Carolina business, people and events. “Villages preserve culture: dress, food and dance are a few examples. As villages grow in population and turn into towns, local cafes make way for large American chains. Handmade leather sandals are discarded for a pair of Western sneakers. Due to its small size, a village fosters a tight-knit sense of community. Justpeace.org explains the meaning of the African proverb, “It takes a village,” by stating that a sense of community is critical to maintaining a healthy society. Village members hold a wealth of information regarding their heritage: they know about the ancient traditions, methods of production and the resources of the land. When villages become dispersed or exterminated in times of war, this anthropological knowledge disappears. Large cities are not as conducive to growing and producing foods such as fruits and vegetables. Villages, on the other hand, usually have ample amounts of land and other resources necessary for growing conditions.” The Importance of Villages by Catherine Capozzi Our Mission SheVille.org provides readers with information important to women’s lives and well-being. We focus primarily on the areas of education & health, business & finance, the arts & the environment. We are particularly interested in local & regional resources, organizations & events.
