VENTURE SHAKESPEARE Presents Twelfth Night, or What You Will, June 13 – 15
A Tale of Love, Revenge, and Mistaken Identity, “Love’s night is noon” Twelfth Night, Act Three, Scene One.
Venture Shakespeare will present its inaugural professional production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, from June 13th-15th at the Kenilworth Center, Asheville, NC.
Venture Shakespeare was founded in 2018 by Kirstin Daniel to bring professional Shakespeare to Asheville and foster the next generation of artists with its education programs through research, collaboration, and creation. Founding Artistic Director Kirstin Daniel says, “Having started a year ago with a month-long program for students ages 18-22, I am thrilled to be bridging my two artistic worlds: my wonderfully generous colleagues, and my eager, inspiring students. This is just the beginning!”
This summer Venture Shakespeare will bring in artists from around the world to create a performance that will not only delight the imagination, but change the way the audience sees themselves and each other. It is a story where all the characters are challenging their class, gender norms, and the system they were born into.
Actor Welland Scripps said “This production explores Twelfth Night’s themes of identity – how we form it, our secrets and why we share them, and our quest of self-discovery.” Actor Liesl Jensen said “Everyone in the ensemble is bringing a really new, exciting energy to all of the characters. We can’t wait to share it with our audiences.”
