Women’s Wellbeing and Development Foundation News

This fall, WWD-F is developing some exciting programs at its Hillcrest Resource Center. There will be some practical workshops and classes for the residents, including a course in soap making, a doula training for residents, and GED tutoring classes. We have also partnered with the Manna Food Bank to run a monthly food pop-up for the community that provides fresh produce and other grocery items to families in need.

The HRC is also expanding its Get Fit Hillcrest initiative by offering a variety of workshops and opportunities for residents to get serious about their health through diet and exercise. And new on the horizon is the Hillcrest Youth Initiative, a week-long after-school program for middle school youth.

We invite anyone interested in learning more about our activities to stop by at 17A in Hillcrest, get to know our dedicated staff, and find out about volunteer opportunities. We are always thankful for all of your support.

New After-school Program for Middle School Youth

WWD-F has partnered with YTL (Youth Transformed for Life) to develop the Hillcrest Youth Initiative, which will help middle-school youth achieve long-term success in their lives. Research has confirmed that support for disadvantaged youth during middle school years ensures positive outcomes in high school and beyond.

The Hillcrest Youth Initiative will offer a dynamic after-school program, 5 days a week, that will nurture intellectual curiosity and artistic expression, build physical fitness, and enhance social and life skills. Youth will learn from local leaders, engage in community service, acquire financial management skills, and create innovative hands-on academic projects.
Although we have received some start-up funds for the program, we need more contributions to turn this valuable program into a reality. Please consider helping out at this link.
Get Fit Hillcrest

For six years, WWD-F has been helping Hillcrest residents improve their health through physical exercises, improved diet, and numerous health related classes, workshops, resources, and referrals. Get Fit Hillcrest combines all these programs into a health club where members can monitor their progress as they learn to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.

This fall, we will start another 6-week healthy cooking class, hold a Women’s Wellness Day that will offer many types of complimentary wellness treatments, and connect participants with wonderful fitness programs at the YWCA. Making lifestyle changes is hard for all of us but Get Fit Hillcrest is dedicated to provide the supports necessary for walking the road to better health.
